Does anyone blog anymore? Is there even a point? That's probably one of most common question about blogging I get when I'm a guest on a podcast or I'm chatting with people about business and blogging. The short, simple answer to whether or not blogs have value is, YES! Blogs are still relevant and being used by business owners! There are many reasons why it's important to have a blog and post content. And it's never too late to start one. Why blog? Blogging offers you the chance to create longer form content, position yourself as an expert or thought leader or share your story. From there you can break that content into reusable pieces across social media, in future blog posts, videos, newsletters and more. This saves you time and helps with consistency. I recently shared an Instagram post about this topic (you can scroll here for some more info about why blogs are valuable) but I wanted to highlight one major reason: We are creating TOO MUCH content. Instead, we should focus on creating less that does more work for us. Having one piece of long form content and turning it into multiple pieces elsewhere to save you time and the stress from worrying about what to post next, should be a major part of your content plan and strategy. Although I use blog posts as an example of long form content, you can replace that with videos or podcasts or even newsletters if that's where you are spending your writing time. If you do use podcasts or videos, you can transcribe them into blog posts! If your main form of communication is a newsletter, those can also become blog posts or be expanded on and supported by further blog posts. If you are an influencer, or share a lot of your stories on social media, a blog offers you a place to anchor all of that content - and let's be real, you don't own your social media account. What happens if it disappeared over night? (Sorry, I know it's scary but we have to think about these things!) Business owners - maybe you aren't seeing the benefit yet for your products or service. But remember, blogging will give you the opportunity to position your products or services in a new way. A fresh post gives your audience a reason to return to your website, and blogs help you share your expertise. There are many benefits to blogging and I am always a fan of encouraging people to make a plan to start one or revive their blog if it's been a while. Not sure what your next post should be about? There's a better way to create content, and you don't have to spend all of your time on social media to do it. I help busy solopreneurs focus on their brand messaging, goals and long-form content (like blogs, newsletters and podcasts) so they can spend less time creating content and more time doing the things they love, in their business and life.
Is it time to start a blog? I've asked this before, and have several podcast episodes about it (including a new one this week!) How a blog can help your business (just a few ways) ✔️ Create this long-form piece of content once, and turn it into many micro pieces to share on social media, over and over again ✔️ A blog link is easier to find and share than an old social media post ✔️ You can share it on Pinterest to be discovered ✔️ A blog offers the ability to be found on search engines when...
The content, marketing, business and life newsletter Do you have a strategy for pitching to be a guest on other people's content? Getting in front of new audiences, as a guest blogger, podcast expert, speaker at an event etc, is such a great part of our content planning. Recently, I was a guest on the What She Said podcast and radio show with Candace Sampson. I was chatting about PEI! A favourite family travel destination of ours (I'm actually there right now as this email is sent). With that...
The content, marketing, business and life newsletter We are consuming too much content and it's affecting how we create our own. Yes, I also think we are creating too much but that's a story for another day. When it comes to consuming, we are scrolling and searching and spending time 'researching' when really, some of that time can be spend doing. The truth is, and I know this because I do it myself, there's only so much we need to consume. It's different when we engage and reply and build...
