Taking Action: Focusing on two social media mistakes

Have you had a chance to watch the webinar yet? These 8 common social media mistakes are fixable! The key is to take action to help make changes.

Focus on 3

As I mentioned in the webinar, focus on 3 of the biggest mistakes you feel you are making and take some action to fix them.

Start with the lowest time commitment that will make the biggest impact.

I wanted to offer even more support for these fixes.

Today, let's chat about Mistake #2 (posting too much) and Mistake #3 (posting too little).

➡️ If you are posting too little...

There are likely a few reasons, many of which you could tie into other mistakes as well. Maybe you are overthinking your content, maybe you don't have a solid strategy or plan or maybe you just don't even know where to start.

The first thing to do when you are posting too little is to look at the other areas of your social media account to make sure, at the very least, if someone visits your page it's CLEAR what you do, who you are and how they can work with you or buy from you.

TAKE ACTION

This means reviewing your bio and updating it accordingly, checking your links, and pinning some relevant posts.

THEN make a plan for the week. Focus on 3 posts.

1) Repost a popular post that you shared in the past year that is still relevant. Update the photo and copy you include as needed.

2) Answer this question: "How to work with me" or "How to Buy from me" and USE the wording as your image. MAKE IT CLEAR in the moment. Update the wording to make it work for you.

For example, I could use "How to work with me: Services and Free support" and then talk about my programs and free webinar.

3) For your third post, offer something of service and value. A tip to help your audience, a 'did you know?' piece of education etc.

➡️ If you are posting too much

Wait. Let's break down what I mean by this. You are likely posting too much if you feel overwhelmed or burnt out. If you spend more time creating than you do working on your business or finding other ways to market beyond social media (eg - blog writing, networking, podcast guesting).

TAKE ACTION

Here are 3 things I would focus on if you feel you are posting too much and aren't seeing results:

1) Review and focus on your brand messaging. Is it clear? Do people know exactly what you sell or how you can help them? Are you solving their problems? If you have a product, are you talking about it and the benefits enough?

Double check your Shop page (if you have one on social) and your bio too.

2) Focus on longer content that you create less frequently but that you can share over and over again. Take a piece of your blog post, a podcast episode, a video you've done and turn that into your next post instead of creating something new.

3) Create a strategy and plan. Don't have long form content? Is all of your information on social only? Now is the time to review a plan to change that. Creating content that serves your goals less often but with better intention will help prevent burning out while still reaching the right audience.

There you have it! A LOT of action steps you can take over the next couple of weeks that focus on two of those webinar mistakes.

I built and painted a blanket ladder from scratch this weekend. And no, this isn't a metaphor for something business related. Literally. Drilled, glued, painted. A blanket ladder. Proof: Okay fine. There's a business lesson here. Honestly, one of the best things I do for my business is step away from it. When you are thinking about content constantly, and spending more time forcing your next post or topic for your podcast or newsletter, you end up feeling more stressed, more overwhelmed and...

Should we talk about the fact that it's November and October disappeared so quickly we can hardly believe it? Maybe? The past many weeks have been hectic around here, filled with baseball, business and bon bons (I wanted to mention Halloween but keep up with the alliteration). I have been attending many events and as a content strategist, nothing gives me better data about what is happening on the ground for small business owners than being in person. We can scroll through Threads and our...

When I stepped into 2025, I choose 'gentleness' as my word of the year. And that guiding principle has been quite consistent. Sure, there are always unexpected life stresses and business ups and downs thrown at me, but that gentleness as a pilot has proven quite useful. In that calmness that I tried to build this year, something unexpected happened. A spark. A desire for something new, and yet familiar. Maybe something more? It was like when we switch wardrobes from the summer and into the...
