Feeling impatient? Same. 🌱

Not all content has an immediate payoff. Here's how to plant for the future

My blood pressure continues to be monitored because it's staying higher than it should. This means that for the next while, until my follow up appointment, I'm trying to see if I can lower it by moving more (something I need to do anyway), and eating less sodium (not less food, for the record. I've hired my friend and dietitian, Jennifer Neale, to help guide me with healthy steps in monitoring my sodium).

Two things:

a) sodium is in everything. It's annoying. Take a look at your grocery store bread. Two slices for a sandwich has so much sodium!! I need to read up on local bakery bread to see if it's better (I'm assuming yes) because honestly, I love toast and don't want to ditch bread. Even though I can't make toast because I melted our toaster on our stovetop recently and haven't replaced it yet.

That's a story for another day maybe (or reply and I'll tell you lol)

b) I'm on about day 4 of this monitoring and while impatient, I know I can't expect results instantly. These changes will all add up hopefully, and even if my blood pressure can't come down with lifestyle, I'm still making healthy improvements by moving my body, lifting weights and eating intuitively. It's not 'wasted time'.

Content is sort of like this. We create and share intentionally, and don't always see results right away. But it doesn't mean it's 'bad' content.

If you are creating based on your goals and with the intent that it supports you, your business and your future planning, it's still valuable.

The post about your new offer that gets crickets? May be the one that people look at after people connect with you in stories or in search.

The Reel that outlines your industry position, may not immediately sell an offer, but could be the thing that gets a podcast host or journalist interested.

When I share about my speaking and workshop trainings that I do for small business owners and organizations, I don't expect an immediate booking. But I do need content like that to remind people it's one of my offers and that I can help them in the future when they are looking for a faciliator or educator. I want to be top of mind.

Content seeds may take time to grow, but it's why intention is so crucial to your strategy. Nothing is wasted.

And yes, some content is more urgent and meant to convert in the now. That's relevant too. I'm just saying not to ignore the posts that feel less popular in the moment if you don't see instant results. Let those seeds be watered and grow!

➑️ In this week's podcast episode, I share more about how I'm posting less content this summer, but choosing things that will look ahead to next month and the Fall. Listen here.

πŸ“© Step offline

The pull of the summer and the push of the need to work on your content can be strong. But consider this permission to step away from creation and find clarity by being offline for a break. It does help especially when you are feeling overwhelmed.

December 1st?? I'm not sure how to feel about this. But I can tell you that as we wind down 2025 (this year was...interesting) it's a good time to reflect and look ahead when it comes to our businesses, and of course content. I've spoken with a lot of business owners lately who just feel done with social media and the constant pressures of marketing. It doesn't mean they are quitting it (there can be a lot of benefits of course), but there's a lot of reduction of time. Which means the need...

I built and painted a blanket ladder from scratch this weekend. And no, this isn't a metaphor for something business related. Literally. Drilled, glued, painted. A blanket ladder. Proof: Okay fine. There's a business lesson here. Honestly, one of the best things I do for my business is step away from it. When you are thinking about content constantly, and spending more time forcing your next post or topic for your podcast or newsletter, you end up feeling more stressed, more overwhelmed and...

Should we talk about the fact that it's November and October disappeared so quickly we can hardly believe it? Maybe? The past many weeks have been hectic around here, filled with baseball, business and bon bons (I wanted to mention Halloween but keep up with the alliteration). I have been attending many events and as a content strategist, nothing gives me better data about what is happening on the ground for small business owners than being in person. We can scroll through Threads and our...
