πŸ”₯ two hot notes about Instagram

Should we talk about the fact that it's November and October disappeared so quickly we can hardly believe it?

Maybe?

The past many weeks have been hectic around here, filled with baseball, business and bon bons (I wanted to mention Halloween but keep up with the alliteration).

I have been attending many events and as a content strategist, nothing gives me better data about what is happening on the ground for small business owners than being in person.

We can scroll through Threads and our Instagram stories to see what is working and what people are doing, but to hear the questions, chat about the struggles, and connect in person is special.

One thing that's coming up over and over again? The frustration with Instagram.

When you create your content strategy based on a tool like Instagram as the focus, it means you don't own the space, and are subject to changes and adjustments out of your control. No wonder if feels overwhelming.

Instead, create your strategy based on the goals you want to meet, then create the action plan and tactics (like posting on Instagram) to help get you there.

πŸ”₯ Two hot Instagram tips:

a) Carousels WITH music are having a moment. Take your reel, blog post or recent newsletter and create a series of carousel images to share more. You can use Canva or just use your own photos and write the text in the app.

b) Analytics are taking longer to see results. By this I mean that if you look at a post to see how well it's doing in the first 24 hours, you may be disappointed. If you check again 4 days later, you may notice it increased in reach. There's a slowness happening and the algorithm seems to push out later and later (note: great posts will still quickly perform well, and some posts fall flat. I'm just saying to give them more time before you decide if they worked or not!)

I built and painted a blanket ladder from scratch this weekend. And no, this isn't a metaphor for something business related. Literally. Drilled, glued, painted. A blanket ladder. Proof: Okay fine. There's a business lesson here. Honestly, one of the best things I do for my business is step away from it. When you are thinking about content constantly, and spending more time forcing your next post or topic for your podcast or newsletter, you end up feeling more stressed, more overwhelmed and...

When I stepped into 2025, I choose 'gentleness' as my word of the year. And that guiding principle has been quite consistent. Sure, there are always unexpected life stresses and business ups and downs thrown at me, but that gentleness as a pilot has proven quite useful. In that calmness that I tried to build this year, something unexpected happened. A spark. A desire for something new, and yet familiar. Maybe something more? It was like when we switch wardrobes from the summer and into the...

in a recent poll in my newsletter and on social media, people voted that they just want help deciding what to post next. Keep reading to find out how to figure that out: 🎧 Catch up on my podcast on Apple, Spotify or this link . In a recent episode, I shared the time I was a guest on the This Mother Means Business podcast and we chatted about building a business with kids of all ages. Not sure what to post next? You aren't alone. It doesn't make it any easier, but often when we don't know what...
